Basic Grey Birthday

Well, today's card started out as an entry into Beate's weekend sketch challenge and somewhere took a wrong turn. But you know what? There is something to be said for taking the unbeaten path. I really like the way it turned out. :-)

This little piggie...

This week's JBWW challenge over at Inky Paws is "Gotta Love the Critters". You are supposed to make a card using your favorite critter image. I have been in love with this little piggie from the moment I first saw her but I have never used her in a card before. (Someday I'll tell you about my two year collection phase where I bought hundreds of stamps but never got around to using them.) I love how the crows are having lunch right there on her back.

I did a lot of sponging and then cut the pig out and adhered her to a second copy of the image. The gingham ribbon was originally black and white, so I colored it with my copic markers to co-ordinate with the background better.

It's my mother's birthday and I thought I would make her card with the SCS Sketch challenge. It's the first time I have put ink to the Artfully Asian set. I just love the simplicity of these stamps and they work really well for this occasion because my mom loves flowers! She has an incredible green thumb that she inherited from her mother. I, on the other hand, could kill a plastic fern. So much for heredity.

Borrowed Inspiration

I needed to make a retirement card tonight and was running low on inspiration. So I did what any self-respecting stamper would do. I borrowed some! This is a CASE of a card created by Laurie Schmidlin which is a CASE of a card by Tosha (stamps4funinCA). Makes your brain hurt doesn't it? Anyway, back to the card. Here's the link. 2 RAKs and a huge honor

Do you ever think you've done something only to find out much later that the intent was there but the follow through was found lacking? Such is the case with this adorable RAK that I received from Kathy Kinney (kakky_w at SCS). I just love the cheerful image and sentiment. I must have smiled for hours after I found this in my mailbox. I thought I had posted this weeks ago and then tonight I was looking for the post and couldn't find it. It was only then that I realized I had photographed and sized the card but never uploaded it. This RAK was a true bright spot in what had started as a rough day. I challenge each of you to send an RAK this week to brighten someone's day. I'll take my own advise too!

Poinsettias

Look everyone....no animals! I didn't exactly dig out my flower stamps but instead I took advantage of the beautiful EK Success PP I picked up recently. I love this paper called Poinsettias Linen and purchased several sheets to make Christmas cards. This card is for the JBWW challenge for this week. You can check out the sketch here.

I started out by sponging the entire card stock and PP with Antique Linen Distress Ink for a softer look. The sentiment is called Joy, Hope and is from Penny Black. I stamped it with Gold Brilliance Ink. I cut the flowers out of the PP and layered them with foam squares. For the finishing touch I added some gold ribbon to We R Memory Keepers hardware.
