Rose of Sharon

I am such a fan of Lockhart stamps. I think Karen has such a great eye for detail and her flower stamps are just the best. This stamp is called Rose of Sharon which I have to admit I had never heard of before. My green-thumbed mom is probably cringing right now. Sorry Mom, I'm afraid none of your gardening genes were passed on to me!

I colored the image with Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol and added Lemon Yellow Liquid Pearls to the center. The border was created with one of Martha Stewart's punches, but for the life of me I can't find what it's called. I used Basic Grey's Euphoria PP along with just a touch of Stampin' Up.

I'm off to bed. Thanks for checking in and don't forget about the great "pay to play" Stampin' Out Alzheimer's event. You still have plenty of time to play along. I created my new banner with the free "Flip Flop Tan" digital mini kit by Libby Weifenbach. You can get this kit free to with a donation as small as $5. The best part? All of the proceeds go straight to the Alzheimer's Association.

Many Thanks

Hope you all enjoyed your Memorial Day holiday! Mine was pretty low key but that's just what I wanted. We did take a drive on Saturday to check out a classic car show. It was a perfect day with gorgeous weather and the venue was Rainbow Falls State Park which is a beautiful and tranquil setting.

Did you notice the new widget in my sidebar? Stampin' Out Alzheimer's is a "pay to play" virtual papercrafting event that runs to June 1st. All proceeds go to the Alzheimer's Association. Most of us will be touched by Alzheimer's at some point in our life...a friend, a parent, ourselves. It is such an insidious disease and robs us of our loved one before they physically leave us. My former mother-in-law has Alzheimer's and it has been so difficult watching her first lose her ability to do her day to day functions and then gradually ceasing to recognize her grandchildren. They were the light of her life, and they miss her so much. Please click on the "Give" button and donate and then join the fun at Stampin' Out Alzheimer's for great challenges, give-aways, and prizes!

This card was made with Studio G clear stamps. You know the kind you can find for $1.00 at various craft stores. They have some of the cutest little images. I used Basic Grey's Mellow patterned papers and added a little hardware and gingham ribbon.

Hope your week ahead is wonderful.

You're a Friend

Leftovers.... I am being overrun with leftovers. I have decided it's time to start using up all (OK, some) of the scraps that I have been saving. I don't know why I have such a tough time throwing even the smallest scraps of PP and card stock away.

edited: That was weird...Sorry about that! Looks like I accidentally posted the entry before I was ready.

I feel so good that I made a minuscule dent in my stash.

What's Cookin'?

Basic Grey has done it again. I don't know how they keep coming out with more beautiful papers, but they do. This collection is called Wisteria and it is luscious!

The layout for today's card is SCS sketch challenge #227. I found this Lockhart stamp at Ellen Hutson's while shopping for Nestabilities and I just fell in love with it. I think aprons are really making a come back and I'm so glad. There is something so comforting about them. They make me think of simpler times. Times like those of Ozzie and Harriet and Leave it to Beaver. I stamped the image on a sheet of the BG paper and the cut it out. I used Copic markers to color some of the trim and then popped it up on dimensionals. The sentiment is computer generated using CK Nostalgia font. I also daubed on a bit of Distress Ink to the Vanilla card stock.

We had a great trip to Philadelphia last week for our son's wedding. Welcome to the family Trina! We had minimal time for sightseeing but covered the highlights, Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Christ Church, and of course Cheese steak sandwiches! It always feels great to be home though. Thanks for checking in.

Bird's Song

Here's a fun and bright card I made for Taylored Expressions Cupcake Challenge this week. I absolutely love these My Mind's Eye Bloom & Grow papers. The colors are so rich and the patterns are gorgeous. Come to think of it, I have never met a MME paper I didn't like!

The sentiment is from a set by Inque Boutique and says "A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song..." - Maya Angelou. Love that!

Am I the only one that creates a card, sets it up to photograph, takes the shot and then works with it in Photoshop, only to discover that something's wrong. Can you see it? Notice anything going on with the thin green border, like the spacing on one side is alot different than the spacing on the other? Arghh! I fixed it afterwards, but didn't have the energy to redo the photo. Just trust me that it looks better in person. Smiley from millan.net
